Except those moments of excesive joy when tears come as a confirmation of good mood, crying is often associated with a vulnerable state of mind which many people are asahmed to get through. However, many of us can confess that after a good cry we often experienced a calmer emotional state, while according to some scientists crying produces certain body healing effects too.
1. Remove toxins
Crying helps our body rid itself of toxins build up courtesy of stress. The idea is supported by a study performed by Dr. William H. Frey II at the St Paul-Ramsey Medical Centre who found that emotionally induced tears contained more toxic byproducts and stress hormones than tears of irritation (such as that caused by a cut onion).
2. Kills bacteria
Tears contain lysozyme, an enzyme that can kill 90 to 95 percent of all bacteria in just 5-10 minutes. Lysozyme is also found in human milk, semen, mucus and saliva. It seems that this enzyme is so powerful that can even protect against the intentional contamination of anthrax (according to a 2011 study published in the journal Food Microbiology).Next time when your tears come out of you eyes, just let them flow!
3. Elevates mood
Crying can reduce the manganese level which is an essential nutrient that can produce bad effects both in its lower and higher level. Overexposure to manganese can lead to negative feeling such as anxiety, nervousness, irritability, fatigue, aggression and so on. Thankfully the simple act of crying can lower a person’s manganese level which will translate into a better mood.
