Have you ever thought of travelling the world? Being able to go from one place to another, discovering new cultures and civilizations is a task for those who are more adventure oriented. However, the personal rewards will not fail to appear. Matt and Jessica are a couple that realized one day they needed a change. Their life seemed to monotonous in their eyes. They wanted to live for the moment and discover the world. As such, they quit their jobs, sold their belongings and started living their dream.
“Our lives were the typical American Dream. Go to school, get married, buy a house, start a career. So far we’ve also left out the part of having 2.5 kids,” the couple from Grand Rapids, Michigan explained. “For too long we had spent all of our weekends in front of the TV without ever doing anything productive or enjoyable. We realised this needed to change.”
Matt and Jessica Johnson worked as an automobile sales manager and billing specialist. They both quit their jobs in 2008, sold their belonging and bought a boat. Their budget is about $1000 per month and so far they have visited sixteen countries. Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba and Peru are just some of the places they’ve seen in their voyage.
In 2012, the couple decided they wanted more company during their travels. As such they adopted a cat from a no-kill shelter. So far, Georgie the cat has visited thirteen countries. In order to be safe while traveling, Georgie is being kept below deck. The cat also wears a harness and leash for safety.
“She does very well with the sailing and is more steady on her feet than we are,” Matt and Jessica said. “She loves sitting on the deck and watching the fish over the side of the boat when we are at anchor. We found out she can swim when she jumped overboard in Grand Cayman. She swam around the back of the boat and climbed up the ladder.”
What do you think of the couple’s voyages? Would you like to travel the world like Matt and Jessica?
