A fairytale kingdom or a good story with knights and kings would be not complete without a big and beautiful castle. Every child dreams to live in a castle, to rule an army or to be a beautiful princess. Every castle is an incredible structure with a big gate and several windows. In every country we are going to find castles built in a specific way, influenced by the area’s own culture and style. We can find many beautiful castles in Japan, Spain, France and England. Here are five castles in Europe that you must visit:
1. Corfe Castle, England

Built between the 11th and the 12th century, the ruins of Corfe Castle are situated in the southern country of Dorset, near a quint village. The purpose of this castle was to intimidate the attackers and it was famously defended during the English Civil War by Lady Bankes. Until these days, you can find murder holes and arrow slits in the castle’s ruins.
2. Conwy Castle, Wales

This beautiful castle is situated in the picturesque town of Cnwy, on the North Coast of Wales. Conwy Castle was built between 1283 and 1289 by King Edward. This amazing castle is considered to be one of the finest masterpieces by architect James of St. George. The Conwy Castle features eight gigantic towers, two fortified gateways and a massive great wall. Visitors can enjoy a guide offer of one-hour tour through this beautiful castle.
3. Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

This amazing castle is probably Europe’s most popular tourist destination and also one of the most photographed buildings in Germany. Placed among the picturesque beauty of the Bavarian Alps, nearby the town of Fussen, the Neuschwanstein Castle served as inspiration for many movies and cartoons. One of this great inspirations was Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle. This castle was built in the late 1800s and it was never built for defense purpose, but as a fanciful retreat for Ludwig II of Bavaria.
4. Bran Castle, Romania

Situated in Romania, Bran Castle is well known as “Dracula’s Castle”. However, Vlad Tepes never called Bran Castle his home. This beautiful castle was used in the defense against the Ottoman Empire, in 1378. After a while it became a custom post on the mountain pass between Wallachia and Transylvania. Vlad Tepes lived in this castle, but he spent almost three days locked in the dungeon while the Ottomans controlled the area.
5. Chateau de Chillon, Switzerland

Chateau de Chillon is situated between the shore of Lake Geneva and the Alps. This beautiful building is Switzerland’s most visited historic monument. During the mid-12th century, Chateau de Chillon served as home to the Counts of Savoy. During the years, this castle was never taken in a siege.
