We all know that education is one of the keys to success and that we shouldn’t abandon it with ease. However, school doesn’t come easy for everyone and some of the unruly students will take comfort in knowing that some of the world’s most prominent historical figures didn’t not finish their education and yet they succedeed in life. Still, it is best to stay in school because you might not be as lucky.
So who are these historical figures who lost themselves on the way to education? Let’s find out!
1. Salvador Dali
The impressive surrealist painter had little to do with school. His rebellious nature always got in him trouble and eventually got him kicked out of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, for leading a student protest 1923. Though he returned the following year, he was permanently expelled in 1926. Dali later wrote:” I immediately understood that those old professors covered with honors and decorations could teach me nothing,”
2. Marlon Brando
The famous actor was too much of a rebel to stay in school. I was a bad student, chronic truant and all-around incorrigible,” Brando later wrote of his high school days. “I was forever being sent to the principal’s office to be disciplined.” After being expelled Libertyville High in 1941 and Shattuck Military Academy in 1943, Marlon Brando came to terms with his lack of interest for academics. He moved to New York and started his acting career.
3. Benito Mussolini
The Italian Fascist leader, Benito Mussolini, was no exemplary student. He was known fur bullying, stealing and generally defying his teachers. “More than once I came back home with my head bleeding from a blow with a stone,” he later wrote of his many fights, “but I knew how to defend myself.” He was sent by his parents to a strict Catholic school, but the boy who’d become Il Duce had no reaction to church discipline. In 1893, he was expelled due to the fact he stabbed a fellow student and was sent to another boarding school where a similar incident got him nearly expelled.
