Brasov is one of Romania’s largest cities and is considered by many inhabitants of the country to be one of the most beautiful cities, if not the most beautiful of them all. Enclosed by mountains of every side, Brasov is located in the heart of Romania. What’s more, the city is fairly close both to Bran Castle and Peles Castle, not to mention that from Brasov you can easily get to any part of Romania you might want to see. If you would like to visit a city full of history and culture but also of mountains and beauty, then Brasov might just be the place for you.
What can you actually visit in Brasov?
The Black Church stands tall in the heart of the city centre, with its blackened walls and towers that have survived the passing of centuries. If you look up on the right side of the church, you will see the statue of a child looking down- legend has it, the boy was the son of one of the builders and he fell off the church so they immortalized him in a statue. Inside the church, you could hear one of the most beautiful organ recitals, as the church houses an impressive pipe organ. The church was built somewhere in the 14th century and has survived a terrible fire- hence the name of Black Church.
The White Tower and the Black Tower, both located within walking distance from the Council Square ( the square in the vicinity of the Black Church) and both offer amazing views of the city. On your way up there, grab a cup of coffee from one of the many cafés. It will make the trip even more delicious.
While in the centre, you should also go to String Street and snap a few photos. It’s one the narrowest streets in Europe and is, as well, within walking distance from the square.
Another place you should not miss is the Old Citadel, located on a hill near the City Hall. You will have to climb many stairs, but the view is amazing. Tip: you should go both by day and by night as both views are going to impress you.
If you’re the athletic kind, you should book a day in your travel itinerary to climb mount Tampa. It’s a trademark of Brasov and the view from the top is brilliant. If you’re not the athletic type, you can still see the view, you just get there by cable.
These are just a few of the places you should visit in Brasov, the rest are for you to discover. Would you visit Brasov?
