All those who have once lived in small spaces, have dealt with the difficulty of managing furniture in tiny settings. Especially if you want to call friends over, you find yourself wondering how to have sitting places for all of them without using up the entire space of the room. Modular furniture can be the perfect answer to this situation and Sofista raises to the challenge.
Fabrizio Simonetti designed Sofista, a three-seat modular couch that fits and adapts perfectly to any space. In its default setting the couch has arms on both sides. The default mode allows a few people to sit comfortably on the Sofista. However, its true potential is unleashed when you break the sofa into modules. When you pull the arms away from the sofa, one becomes a chair and the other a chaise longue. In this configuration you have additional space for two or three people. When you don’t need the space, you simply tuck the modules back.
But, that is not all. Sofista actually takes things another step further. It can be turned into a bed for whenever you have guests crashing at your place over the night. This is a great bonus for all those who do not have a separate guestroom. Moreover, the Sofista takes less space than a fold-out sofa when opened.
This new sofa stands out thanks to its mechanism. Instead of using hinges or other cumbersome ways to transform the sofa, the modules simply slide out. In this way the couch is easy to maneuver and adjust. Sofista also comes with a removable cloth clover. The pads are made from polyurethane foam and the legs are made from beech wood.
Sofista is definitely rather pricey, having a €1,210 (US$1,620) price tag. However, it replaces with ease several pieces of furniture you would otherwise need. The couch comes in eight different colors. Would you buy it for your house?
