Born on February 5th 1985 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal , Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, known as Cristiano Ronaldo or CR7, would grow to be one of Portugal’s shining stars in the world of football. Currently playing as a forward for Spanish football club Real Madrid and captaining Portugal’s national team, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best footballers in the world. His skills are impressive and his passion even more so. He is a player who was destined to make history – and he embraced his destiny without fear. “I am an ambitious player with only one objective: victory for my team” says Cristiano Ronaldo of himself.
He started his career at a small team in Portugal, called Andorinha where his talent was starting to show. At age 11, he caught the attention of one of Portugal’s greatest club Sporting Clube de Portugal. From that moment on, his career would only take him to higher peaks. After playing for Sporting, Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Sir Alex Ferguson who would transfer him to Manchester United. Though he had a successful run as a Red Devil, Cristiano Ronaldo would relocate to the favorite team of King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Real Madrid. He has now established himself as one of the top goalscorers in the history of the club and as a leader of the squad. All eyes are on Cristiano Ronaldo whenever Real Madrid plays a match. Defense tries to stop him from doing what he loves most but fail, as Cristiano Ronaldo knows no stopping. After winning the Champions League final last Saturday with his team, Cristiano Ronaldo is now one of the Kings of Europe. He is also the competition’s top goalscorer for the second consecutive season and the third overall, with a record 17 goals in a single season. Though called at times arrogant and insufferable, Cristiano Ronaldo simply says that he is competitive and should not be judged based on that.
Cristiano Ronaldo is more than a great footballer, he is also a philanthropist. In 2012, Ronaldo and his agent paid for specialist treatment for a nine-year-old Canarian boy with apparently terminal cancer. Ronaldo sold the golden boot he had won in 2011 for €1.5 million and gave the money to fund schools for children in Gaza , he joined FIFA’s ’11 for Health’ programme to raise awareness amongst kids of how to steer clear of conditions including drug addiction, HIV, malaria and obesity.
In January 2013, Ronaldo became Save the Children’s new Global Artist Ambassador, in which he hopes to help fight child hunger and obesity.
An impressive footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo is known for his speed, dedication and talent and is, without a doubt, a shining star of football. In my personal view, he is the best player in the world at the moment. Do you agree?
