Recycling techniques and DIY project are very much valued these days. There are many environmental-friendly artists who try to establish a business of their own. But they also want to respect nature and use recycled materials in everything they do.
Some use recycled paper, some maybe wood or only natural materials from their region in order to develop their small business and craft impressive and unique objects and artwork. This is also the case of Barbara Turska-Knyziak, who uses old, recycled magazines and newspapers to create original interior decorations. Her home décor pieces are perfect for modern apartments and trendy people who are into Eco-design and prize originality.

Barbara takes whatever paper she can get her hands on and transforms it into paper rods. Together with lots of love for her craft and the desire to influence people to use materials in a more sustainable way, she turns the rods into various home décor pieces, such as lovely lamps, fruit bowls or storage boxes. Every item is unique, as the artist is committed to never craft two pieces which to look completely the same.
In order to make her interior decorations, she rolls the paper into a tubular shape, then weaves them into different shapes. She finishes every item by applying one coat of Eco-paint, designed to make them last longer and become waterproof. This process is quite long and assiduous for every piece; it takes Barbara about two or three days to make a small basket or bowl, for lamps it takes much longer. But she loves what she does, and this is what is important in the end!
This Polish artist has a small graphic design studio in Warsaw, and sells her artwork under her own label – Barbórka dizajn. She decided to start upcycling – a form of making really useful things from recycled materials, because she wanted to both use recycled goods in a sustainable way and make something with real usage in daily life from them. I am not only focused on the appearance of my products, but also on quality. I do not want to make useless things which to be transformed immediately into garbage.’ is what she says.
Barbara also organizes creative upcycling workshops, where lots of people come to learn this craftsmanship. She teaches them how to transform daily trash, such as paper or bottles and various recipients into beautiful, as well as useful interior decorations for their homes. Besides these, Barbara plans to also start producing furniture from recycled paper in the future.
