Recent studies have shown that a smartphone carries more bacteria than the flush in a public men’s toilet. Each time we use our phones, we come in contact with that bacteria and risk becoming sick. Even though we try to keep our phones clean, we never manage to do so.
Until the antibacterial touchscreen hits the markets we have to make do with what we have or try finding a different solution. The PhoneSoap Charger comes as an alternative to traditional ways of keeping a smartphone clean such as antibacterial wipes. This new device charges your phone and at the same time sanitizes it.
The PhoneSoap uses UV light to sanitize your phone while it’s charging. The device was designed by Wesley LaPorte and Dan Barnes. Their kickstarted campaign managed to exceed its funding goal, raising three times more than the $18.000 they needed. While describing their device, they called it a “a small box that simultaneously charges and sanitizes your cell phone.”
The device simply plugs into a socket. It has an internal USB port which users can use to connect a charging cable and their smartphone. The phone is then closed inside the box in order to be sanitized. The PhoneSoap’s two UV-C lights are capable of killing 99.99 percent of bacteria and germs in less than five minutes. The percentage was calculated by the creators of the device.
In order to find out when the phone is completely charged, the user must check the indicator light. Moreover, in order to make sure you do not miss any important alarms and notifications, the PhoneSoap also comes with an acoustic outlet. You can fit devices that measure up to 6 x 3.74 x 0.78 in (153 x 95 x X 20 mm) in the box.
The PhoneSoap can be purchased for US$49.95. Would you replace the traditional antibacterial wipes with this device?
