The Metro St James Cafe, situated in the heart of Sydney, became worldwide famous through a simple, but effective marketing idea. During the whole month of June, between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, customers were allowed to pay with a kiss for their coffee. It wasn’t about kissing the stuff or any foreigner, but to give a kiss to the beloved one.
After just three months since its opening, the cafe made great buzz with this wonderful and sweet idea. Perhaps, some customers without a partner might have felt ignored, but maybe some of them broke the ice with a secret love.
The cafe’s attempt to bring romance back was not accidentally. Metro St James Cafe is a very chic combination of the Parisian bistro atmosphere and the New York culture. The romantic spirit of France is complemented by a sophisticated menu with strong French influence, created by chef David Bransgrove.
Metro St James Café is situated in the beautiful Hyde Park and has the privilege to be housed in a heritage-listed building behind St James Station which is the first underground train station built in Australia. The parent restaurant,La Brasserie, is also situated in Sydney and has recently been awarded the WINNER of the BEST FRENCH RESTAURANT in Sydney, by Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering.
The man behind the two wonderful bistros is Philippe Valet, one of Sydney‘s best-known restaurateurs. Philippe Valet inherited this passion from his grandfather, who had been the director of a very famous brasserie in Paris. Inspired by his background, Philippe created in Sydney a new way of expression for the French bistro.
This special mix of Australian history and French culture makes Metro St James a very special place. We expect to see in the close future other crazy ideas that can approach people and make them smile.
