When it comes to eco vehicles, there isn’t any designer who didn’t think of designing an electric car. That’s understandable because electric cars are the most accessible alternative to conventional oil-fueled vehicles. The lightweight of electric vehicles is continously reduced with each design or model. The segway transportation pod on two wheels is ahead of them all. No wonder that designers opt to reduce the dimensions of their electric cars. We enter an age where size no longer emphasizes a massive physical structure, but efficiency and low fuel consumption. Indeed, we have experienced the ideas and concepts of three-wheeled vehicles. However, it is not everyday that we encounter ideas from people such as Sergio Luna who designed one of the few known two-wheeled vehicles, the segway transportation pod. This concept vehicle is scheduled to be produced in the year 2020, even if no prototype has been built as of now.
The design of Sergio Luna’s concept car slides down from the idea of a car and embarks upon the futuristic ideas of driving pods. It is a concept we have seen only in movies. With not more than one seat, the drivers seat, this vehicle could be easily tagged as a “liberal vehicle” if you want, one that breaks barriers of design and of habits.
The segway transportation pod runs on four electric motors, two in each wheel. As you can see, the vehicle has a pod-like-exoskeleton design and, due to its small dimensions, the car is easy to park and easy to get pass rush hours (maybe even drive it on the sidewalk, when there aren’t many people around).
The only downside of Sergio Luna’s ecological concept vehicle might be its improbability to reach the mass production line. We could be mistaken, however. What do you think of the segway transportation pod? Would you mind driving alone all the time?
