As time passes and technology advances, we constantly find ourselves in need of new phones. They are no longer a luxury, but a necessity. We could not imagine our everyday lives without our smartphones that allow us to connect with anyone wherever we are. Due to the rapid development of technology, new mobile phones models appear every few months. A new, innovative concept might be the answer to the waste problem. The ZTE Eco-Mobius modular phone concept allows mobile phone users to change certain modules in their devices. This will prevent the necessity to buy a new phone in a short amount of time.
The Eco-Mobius is easily assembled and updated. The phone has four independent modules: display, core, battery, and camera. The modules can be replaced with ease. You simply have to slide the old one out and slide the new one in. The screen and the lens are part of the display module. In the core module you can find the CPU, GPU, RAM and ROM. The Eco-Mobius was created with a sliding system in order to make updating easy and smooth.
Moreover, ZTE came up with the idea to create an efficient trading platform for the phone parts. When a part needs updating, the user can find the necessary parts. When you wish to change your CPU you must access the trading platform. There you can see which users are selling a faster CPU. Then, you decide which user has the part you want. At the same time you can sell your old CPU to another user and save some money. When a component no longer works, it gets recycled. You can even carry several modules with you and change them as you see fit.
The Eco-Mobius is the winner of the 2013 red dot award: design concept. Would you buy a modular phone that can be easliy upgraded?
