Stephen King, Author of Horror Novels, to Turn 66
2Stephen King, one of the most prolific authors in the world, will turn 66 in about one week. The author of novels such as Carrie, The Shining, The Green Mile and Christine, Stephen King is actually considered to be the most successful writer in the United States. His horror, suspense and fantasy books have sold in more than 350 million copies.

Stephen King was born in September 21, 1947, in Portland, Maine. Currently, the author and his wife Tabitha own The Zone Corporation, a company handling 3 radio stations in Maine. Actually, in many of his books, the action is set in Maine, a place Stephen King knows and loves a lot.
One of the most tragic events in the famous author’s life occurred in 1999. Back then, King was hit by a van close to his home. The injuries he suffered were extremely serious, including collapsed lung and a gash to the head. When King felt better after this accident, he purchased the vehicle and wailed on it with a baseball bat.
It seems that King’s imagination when it comes to writing his horror stories comes from an experience of his childhood. King saw one of his friends being killed by a train. Naturally, this has been a highly traumatizing event for child to become the famous writer.
Like many other famous people, King had some serious alcohol and drug addiction issues in the 80s. With the help of his family, he realized he had a problem and has been sober ever since. Stephen King declared that he doesn’t remember writing his work Cujo, as he had actually been drunk during the time he wrote it.
In August, The New York Times revealed that Stephen King listened hundreds of books on recordings. These recordings were made by his children back in the 1980s. At the age of only 12, his kids had to read word-for-word novels such as The Carpetbaggers, Raven and Anna Karenina.
Writing is not the only passion of Stephen King. In fact, the author is part of a band: he plays rhythm guitar in The Rock Bottom Remainders. It is claimed that Stephen King suffers from macular degeneration, an incurable condition that can lead to blindness. The author said on his website that there is no danger of going blind.
