Diet myths are in everyone’s mind, whether we like it or not. People have heard a piece of information from somewhere, never verified it but stored it in mind, using it from time to time to inform other people. We all heard of stories such as: don’t eat after 6 o’clock in the evening, the more you eat the more you need to exercise, don’t eat butter, eat a power bar instead of lunch and so on. But are these pieces of information accurate? Can we rely on them when making dietary choices? The answer is: NO.
Below you’ll find 3 diet myths that will make you think more about your diet choice!
1.Eating at Night is Fattening
The truth is that calories count no matter when you’re eating them. The same amount of calories will cause the same amount of energy, which you use or not during the day. Fact is, it’s the daily amount of calories that counts, no matter when ingested.
2. Cutting Carbs Helps with Weight Loss
Truth is that carbs (carbohydrates) have become nowadays what fats were during the last decade: food demons. But actually, carbs give us energy. Low levels of carbs can make you irritable, constipated and tired. It’s just important to keep in mind that, just as with fats, some carbs are better than others! Cut back on refined carbs, such as soda and foods made with white flour.
3. Dairy Makes You Fat
Not really. Everyone was saying that dairy products are a no-no when it comes to a diet. The truth behind this diet myth is that combined with calorie control, a dairy rich diet will make you lose twice the body fat and weight. Use non- fat or low fat dairy products and enjoy their benefits.
There are many more diet myths, all waiting to be uncovered. The truth is that you have to find the diet that works for you and stop believing everything you hear. What other diet myths do you know?
