The Gypsy Vanner Horse is a very beautiful breed that have been selectively bred over more than 100 years by the Gypsy community from England and Ireland.

The Gypsies intentions were to create a very colorful and attractive horse to match with their caravans. They also wanted a strong horse that can work all day with small amounts of food. Furthermore, the horse had to be docile enough to permitted their children to handle him.
Although nowadays it is very popular, the Gypsy Vanner Horse breed wasn’t listed in any directory until recently years. In the USA the breed become popular in the mid 90’s. One of the most confusing information about this horse breed are the numerous names. The Gypsy Vanner Horse is the first name that was chosen to indicate it.
The predominant color of these horses is the combination of black and white or brown and white. However today the Gypsy Vanners exists in many other interesting combinations and colors.

The main point of recognition as a pure horse breed is the body type. They are easily recognizable due to the abundant mane, forelock and tail. Gypsy Vanners have impressive feathering that begins at the knees on the front legs and near the hocks on the rear, extending over the front of the hooves. They have broad chest, heavy well-rounded hips and heavy flat bone. Because of their attractive appearance their are associated with the fairy tail creatures.

As much as their appearance, The Gypsy Vanner Horse is very appreciated for their temperament. They acts more like a companion animal and enjoys very much to stay with people and to please them.
