Amazing Ancient Inca Ruins
2The Inca civilization has arrived from the highlands of Peru, probably in the early 13th century. In 1438, they began conquering lands surrounding the Inca heartland of Cuzco and managed to create the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. Starting with 1532, the Spanish conquistadors have arrived and they ended the sort-lived Inca Empire. After the Inca civilization, many interesting structures have remained in the area. Visitors can now discover how advanced this civilization was through the impressive ancient Inca ruins they left in the highlands of South America.
Ollantaytambo

During their time, Ollantaytambo was considered the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti. After he conquered the region, he built the town and a ceremonial center. When the Spanish conquered Peru, Ollantaytambo served as a stronghold of the Inca resistance. These days, Ollantaytambo is a major tourist attractions, and known as the Inca Trail.
Moray

This place is an Incan agricultural laboratory, which was used for hearty varieties of plants. Moray contains many circular terraces, which could be used to study interesting effects of different climatic conditions. Visiting this beautiful site, you can learn more about the Inca culture and also see the deepest crater, which is 150 meters deep, with a temperature difference of 14° C, between the surface and the bottom level.
Choquequirao

Situated on the border of Cuzco and Apurimac, this site is placed 3084 meters above the sea level. Choquequirao means Cradle of Gold and contains a staircase configuration which is composed of 180 terraces. This structure is built in a different style than Machu Picchu and is much larger in area. You can travel through this area by horseback or by foot, but it is visited much less often than the famous Machu Picchu. If you don’t own a car, the trek from Cachora to Choquequirao can take up to three or four days.
