Situated at about 11 km southwest from La Paz, the Moon Valley can be found next to the small town of Mallasa. They say that this place was named the Valley of the Moon by astronaut Neil Armstrong. This area looks like a valley of stalagmites canvasing a desert. Moon Valley is what is left of a mountain composed of sandstone and clay that has been battered by time and winds. Like many other mountains in the area, Moon Valley is filled with rich variations of mineral content.

Known as Laguna Colorada, the Red Lagoon is a shallow salt lake located in the southwest Bolivia, bordered by Chile. The amazing red color is caused by red algae and sediments in the water. This water attracts Chilean, James’ and Andean flamingos, the rarest flamingo species in the world.
