Even businesses with long tradition must keep pace with technology. Mark Ineson, owner of Real Donkeys, has given donkey rides on Blackpool’s beach for nearly 20 years and all this time cash had been the single payment system.
However, Mark recently decided to move with the times and gave one of his donkeys (Dillon) the world first contactless payment saddle. ‘Over the years I’ve had to turn hundreds of kids away because mums and dads don’t have the cash on them to pay for a ride on Dillon – and the beach is often the last place you want to be carrying lots of change”, Mark justifies his decision.
But now, thanks to the innovative payment system, parents can pay a ride along the sands at Blackpool by simply touching a contactless credit or debit card (from any bank that offers the technology).
The innovative payment system is the result of Mark’s collaboration with Barclaycard, the leading credit card issuer in the UK with a history in providing innovative payment solutions for consumers and businesses.
Also, to make sure the technology was seamlessly integrated and the saddle a comfortable fit Barclaycard technologists collaborated with designers Seymourpowell (a leading global design and innovation company) to build Dillon’s new tack.
The contactless payment saddle will be added to a hall of fame of “firsts” from Barclaycard and if the new payment system proves to be successful, we could see the roll out of more Contactless Donkeys everywhere next summer.
