Pizza Hut teamed with design company Chaotic Moon Studios to create an interactive concept table that could be the future of the biggest pizza company’s dine-in ordering experience.
The interactive table lets customers visualize their order as they construct it. Customers are allowed to design their pizza exactly how they would have do it in the real life, in every little detail, from the size of the pie to how the toppings are distributed. The payment can be done by simply tapping the phone to the table and, while they are waiting for their pizza to be made, clients can play various games on the same touch-screen table.
At first sight Pizza Hut interactive concept table seems a very interesting idea, and probably many of you already imagined creating your own virtual pizza. But the table must be quite rugged to resist so many abuses (greasy fingerprints, soda spills) which a fast food table usually endures day to day. Also, implementing the new dine-in ordering experience in all Pizza Hut restaurants would probably require a very high investment, and the question is if it really worth it.
On the other side, touch-screen tables in restaurants are not new at all. They are used in some places for the same reason as Pizza Hut decided to give it a try: with screen touch technology you place in your customers hand’s the control of their dining experience.
What is your opinion about Pizza Hut’s concept table? Would you like to use this technology to order your pizza instead of making conversation with the waiter?
