Street Heroes is perhaps one of the only events in Romania which focuses entirely on the different kinds of heroes we can find on the streets of the country. It’s not about celebrating Batman or Superman or some other comic book character, but real people. It’s not about celebrating superpowers, it’s about celebrating talent. Having reached its ninth edition, Street Heroes becomes increasingly popular among the younger generations. Bucharest plays host to talents from across the country, each looking to earn the title of Street Hero.
But Who Are These Street Heroes?
The answer is simple: rollers, skaters, riders, graffiti artists, street ball players, MC’s, DJ’s, b-boys and b-girls, gamers, writers, performers. They all are Street Heroes. Why are they heroes? Well, this answer is simple as well: they are heroes because they found their talents and they are constantly working to improve them. They are heroes because they spend hours on end trying to better themselves. They are heroes because they dedicate themselves entirely to their art, living and breathing through it. And they are Street Heroes because they roam the streets, finding odd places to showcase their work, be it a great new graffiti or a dance demonstration in the middle of the subway.
At Street Heroes they battle against each other for the supreme title, while at the same time enjoying an event especially designed for their lifestyles. Great artists hold concerts, making the event all the more spectacular. There’s talent everywhere and amazing skills to be discovered. Truth be told, art and talent are everywhere around us, if we open our eyes to see it. Perhaps that in the modern age, urban art became more representative than traditional art, as it stands for a whole new generation of people and thoughts.
What do you think of an event such as Street Heroes? Would you say that urban art has gained some ground?
