People from Ghent and Antwerp, Belgium, are happier than many of us when going to the launderette. This is possible thanks to Wasbar, a special place with three different functionalities. Here, people can choose to do the laundry, enjoy a coffee or a lemonade, eat and have their hair done.

The concept of launderette and café in the same place is not new. There are few business owners, in other parts of the world, that understood how precious is the time people is wasting at a common launderette. But Wasbar is special. The concept includes a hairdresser too and a very cool design.
The first Wasbar was opened in October 2012 in Ghent, a Belgian city known for being crowded with students who are attending the University.
The founders of WasBar are two young guys, Dries Henau and Yuri Vandenbogaerde, who used to take their laundry to their mothers during the weekend. At a certain moment they realized that many students who live in dorms don’t have a laundry machine. Moreover, most of them will definitely appreciate doing something useful or pleasant while waiting for their clothes to be washed at a launderette.
Wasbar is aimed not only to students, but to young people in general. To fully satisfy their customers, Dries and Yuri paid attention to every little detail.
The unique interior design was conceived by PinkEye design studio. Pleasant colors like toned-down salmon pink, light blue and mint green, mixed with special elements like wooden drawers mounted on the walls, or the colorful tiled bar, defines the identity of Wasbar.
The Wooden drawers have been recycled from discarded furniture and were mounted on the walls with the purpose to display all the important info: food menu, the haircut options, the washing prices and washing possibilities and so on. Another interesting thing that contributes to Wasbar uniqueness is the fact that instead of numbers the washers and the dryers have the names of grandmas and grandpas.
Wasbar is indeed a very special concept and Dries and Yuri are aware of this. They are planning to bring Wasbar spirit in many parts of Belgium. They seem to be very determined in their plan since at just one year after the first Wasbar opened its doors another one was opened in Antwerp.
