With the beast from the east finally slain we can finally look forward to summer, which is quite unrepentantly on its way.

If you’re studying in Bolton we have some tips for you. Whether you’re there for the long hall, chasing a PHD, as a harassed third year looking at the end of your studies or a newly minute fresher still settling into the student accommodation Bolton has to offer, we can guide you to the sort of summer celebrations you deserve to enjoy.

Summer In Bolton

IRONMAN

Not the Marvel Superhero! If you’ve been trying to avoid the slide into student somnolence, and instead have been hitting the gym, the running track and smoothies, this is the challenge you need.

Ironman is a world renowned endurance race, including running, swimming and cycling. This is the first full event in the UK for the famous Ironman organisation and will attract athletes from across the world to test themselves against the punishing slate of physical activities, which includes a swim in Pennington Flash. Even in July that’s not something to be sniffed at.

If you don’t fancy joining the race, the town will still be transformed for a couple of days and it’s well worth taking in the sites. You can watch the different stages of the race, and it’s a spectacle to behold whether you’ve got a friend taking part of not.

There will also be a companion Ironkids event to get whole families involved, with children from 3 to 15 racing through the town centre, which will certainly be heartwarming to watch – especially if you’re watching from a nearby pub!

Food and Drink Festival

This is more of an activity everyone can join in with. From Friday the 24th to Monday the 27th of August, Bolton will be taken over by the best food and drink from all over the world.

Last year’s festival included an Alice in Wonderland theme, with associated street theatre taking place over the course of the bank holiday weekend bringing a touch of Wonderland magic into people’s lives whether they were taking part in the festival or not!

There was also a public Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, and cookery demonstrations every day from celebrity chefs, special pop up restaurants, with some venues existing for one night only! It’s a truly exclusive experience and if you’re interested in sampling some of the finest tastes life as to offer, it really behoves you to attend!
