Kid Cudi is an American hip hop artist, record-producer and singer-songwriter. He acquired fame after the release of his mixtape A Kid Named Cudi, which came out in July of 2008. During his career, he released 5 albums and starred in about 10 films and 6 TV-series. He was nominated for several awards and won Beatport Music Award (2009), Urban Music Award (2009) and 2 Grammy Awards (2012).

Biography

Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi was born on January 30, 1984 in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the youngest member of the family and has two brothers, Domingo and Dean, and a sister, Maisha. His father was an air force veteran in World War 2 before he retired and became a house painter. Cudi went to Shaker Heights High School, but later transferred to Solon High School. After finishing high school, he joined the University of Toledo to study film production but dropped out a year after.

Career

Cudi was inspired by hip hop groups like A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde and began rapping when he was about to finish high school. Later, he moved to Ney York City where he started his professional career as a hip hop artist. In 2008, Cudi released his first mixtape entitled A Kid Named Cudi due to the help of streatwear brand 10.Deep.This mixtape impressed Kanye West and as a result he signed Cudi to his GOOD Music label.

Thereby, Cudi was featured in several hits in the albums 808s & Heartbreak (2008)by Kenye West and The Blueprint 3 (2009)by Jay-Z. In 2008,he appeared for the first time on television at the MTV Video Music Awards. On February 17, 2009, he appeared on MTV talk show Dogg After Dark hosted by Snoop Dogg to present his first single Day ‘n’ Nite. Two days later, he joined Kanye West on BET’s 106 & Park to launch the music video Day ‘n’ Nite. He appeared alongside Solange in the music video T.O.N.Y. in February 2009. In the same year, Cudi performed on MTV’s Spring Break. Then, he produced a single called Switching Lanes in collaboration with Emile Haynei that was used in the video game Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

Cudi appeared as the guest star on a show hosted by David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. He featured in Black Eyed Peas video I Got a Feeling. He collaborated with David Guetta and recorded a song Memories that consequently became an international hit. In September 2009, he was awarded by Japanese clothing company BAPE due to his excellence in the music industry.

Besides music, Cudi was also engaged in acting. His most memorable roles were in TV-series How to Make It in America (2010-2011) and Maniac (2011), directed by his friend, Shia LaBeouf. He also starred in such films as Cruel Summer (2012), Need for Speed (2014), Goodbye World (2014) and others.
