Hot tubs have been increasing in popularity over the years. Many more people now own a hot tub than perhaps ten years ago and that includes older people as well. And why not? Enjoying a hot tub or spa should not just be for younger people. After all, the older generation have far more time on their hands so why not make the most of it? We did, however, catch up with Aqua Spa Supplies to get their thoughts on hot tub safety for older people.

Of course as we get older we may get a little unsteady on our feet which is why it’s extremely important to take extra precautions when using a hot tub or spa. Make sure the steps you are using are safe. Falling could result in a broken limb or bruising so if your steps have seen better days then take a look at a set of Aqua Steps with a non slip tread for safety that can be used with either a curved or straight hot tub cabinet. If you’d prefer a set of steps with additional storage then the Smartstep may be a better option with it’s optional storage drawer to hold items such as chemicals and other bits and bobs. As an extra safety feature you could also fit a Spa Side Handrail which will make climbing in and out of the hot tub or spa much safer.

Older people are much more susceptible to extremes of temperature so make sure you turn down the heat by a few degrees for safety. Having the water too hot can cause elderly people to feel faint or dizzy which could lead to a nasty accident. Keep an eye on the temperature of the water with a Thermometer. A basic one will do or for those with a sense of humour they are available in a range of different animals such as a duck, seahorse or whale.
