Good Scores In CAT and MAT Can Secure Admission To A Good B-School

In a business environment marked by low economic growth and sluggish growth, a professional degree like MBA could be your golden ticket to a financially rewarding and satisfying career.  This highly popular post graduate degree which prepares students for management level positions enjoys tremendous popularity in India. An MBA degree from a well-known business school could boost your value in the job market to a considerable extent.

Top quality management institutes in Gurgaon or for that matter anywhere in India offer top level placement opportunities with reputable national and multinational corporations.  Excellent academic environment, top faculty and world class infrastructure offered by these institutes in conjunction with a market relevant curriculum and a dedicated placement cell invariably ensures 100 per cent placement from the campus itself for participants.

How to get into a top class B-School?

There is no such thing as free lunch and admission to a good quality business school is no exception to it. Everybody knows that getting into a business school, especially those which enjoy good brand value, is a precursor of good things to come in life. The competition to get into these business schools is immensely tough with very low application to admission ratio. Every year close to 3 lacs aspirants sit for popular management competitive exams like CAT, MAT and XAT among others. Additionally, there are other quality institutes which conduct their own entrance test for the management program.

In the following paragraphs we shall look at two of the most popular competitive tests for admission to various good quality business schools in India.  We shall also look into the criterions, questions asked, tips and the subjects in which an aspirant’s knowledge is tested among other things.

Common Aptitude Test (CAT)

Common admission test, popularly known as CAT, is the most prestigious, the most popular as well as the toughest entrance exam for post graduate management degree offered by different management institutes in India. Conducted by highly prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), the test is held annually for admission to postgraduate management courses in all the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) along with many other top quality management institutes who only accept CAT scores for admission consideration. You have to do exceptionally well in CAT if you wish to realise your dream of studying MBA in highly coveted IIMs or other top ranked B-Schools in India like Management Development Institute(MDI), Gurgaon, S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai, International Management Institute(IMI), Delhi, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, etc.

Now as mentioned earlier, CAT is one of the hardest entrance exams in India which tests your attitude, decision making abilities, ability to perform under pressure, etc—prerequisites for a successful career as a manger. You need to prepare for the two hour objective test with a well-planned approach and dedication. There is no shortcut to prepare for CAT, but the thing that acts as the differentiating factor is your approach. You have to be exceptionally clear about your fundamentals and train your brain to work efficiently and intelligently during the two most important hours of your life. The entrance test has three sections: Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability (VA) and Reading Comprehension (RC), and Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR). Percentile scores are presented for each section as well as for the entire exam.

This year the CAT was held on 4th December and the results are likely to be out on 17th January, 2017.  While wishing you the best, we would like to reiterate once again that you should not make CAT the centre of your existence.  The entrance rates for IIMs are extremely low and maybe one in hundred applications have a chance of gaining admission. This should not be accuse of despair as there are many other premier MBA Colleges in Delhi NCR who accept scores of other popular tests or conduct their own entrance examinations.

AIMA-MAT (MANAGEMENT APTITUDE TEST)

MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is conducted 4 times a year (in February, May, September & December) by the Centre for Management Services (CMS) division of All India Management Association (AIMA). It is conducted in both paper pencils as well as computer based mode. More than 100 business schools accept ATMA scores for admission to various management programs. This is the second best option after CAT for you to secure a seat in a post graduate management program of an accomplished management institute.
