Equipment

One must possess the right equipment to compete at a high level in professional cycling. As one can imagine, all this starts with having a good quality racing bike. A pro cycling bike is far more costly than your average bicycle. One of the primary reasons for this is due to the unique materials that are used to make the frame of the bicycle. This makes the bike strong enough to endure the rigors of racing. These special and unique materials also make the bike’s weight more light, allowing bicycle riders to obtain more speed. Typically, steel, titanium, carbon or aluminum is used for professional bikes.

Furthermore, lightweight and highly durable aluminum is used to make the wheels that are attached to these bikes. Compared to your average bicycle, the spoke system is also very unique. As each individual one is much stronger, the number of spokes is less than normal. This is the main reason why they are also more expensive. Another element of the pro bike that is very significant in overall performance is the gearshift system. It is very sophisticated and when encountering the various terrains during a race, it allows the cyclist to easily shift gears. Joshua’s half-brother, Jeremy Hunt who is also a racing cyclist gifted his brother Joshua Hunt his first bike as he took up cycling at the age of 16.

A Pro Cycling Race Requires Proper Training

Extensive training is a major part behind the success of any pro cyclist. To be the best that they possible can be, one really has to make the commitment. At a time before the race, this involves training consistently for months anytime from 2 to 6 hours per day. Pro cyclists are building stamina and strength in the gym, when they are not training on their bicycle. This involves some cross-training and weight lifting so that they are in peak condition.

A huge part of training for a cyclist is eating right and in proper amounts. They will tend to load up on proteins and carbohydrates so their muscles are getting the energy they need and are being repaired to be at their best while racing and training.

Not only is cycling a highly competitive international sport, it is also a popular recreational and pastime sport. From mountain biking and BMX, a myriad of track events and multi-day tour events, the sport of cycling comes in many forms.
