While you hope to avoid a serious illness or injury, you know the odds are more than likely not in your favor as time passes by.
Have an emergency plan in place to lower the chances of a problem morphing into something worse or even fatal.
So, are you prepared for a health emergency should it strike you today or the next day?
Have a Plan Ready to Go
In planning for what you ultimately hope does not come, make sure to keep the following health pointers in mind:
- Your health – Focusing on your health is important each day of your life. With that being the case, do your best to limit the chances of putting yourself in bad positions. As an example, look around your home to see if there are any potential traps. Floors, carpets, electrical cords, top-heavy bookcases and more can all lead to accidents. Review how you have your home set up to see if it is an accident waiting to happen
- Being active – When you have a regular exercise routine in place, the chances of getting hurt do exist. That said your body should also be in better shape to handle such an injury if it occurs. Even walking 15 to 30 minutes a day is better than nothing. If you can craft a regular workout plan, do so. You will feel better about your physical and emotional well-being by doing this.
- When emergencies strike – If you get an injury or a serious illness, do you know emergency room options? By knowing where to go when you need help, you can lessen the chances of your illness or injury becoming worse. Look ahead to see which medical facility with emergency rooms is nearest to where you are. When you know such info, you can plan on going there should the need arise. Remember, in some instances, you may have to go to the one the EMT’s decide is in your best interests to receive care.
- Notifying others – Last, it is important to always have an emergency contact name and number on you. You should also consider putting such info in your cell phone. This makes it easier for police or medical personnel to alert a close relative or friend in the event you can’t.
Keeping Calm in a Crisis
Though a major illness or injury needing emergency room treatment is not fun, remain as calm as you possibly can.
By doing your best to cooperate with medical personnel, you can get faster attention and care. This will make things better for you from both a physical and emotional state too.
Last, be sure to learn from any medical emergency. Doing so can help you be ready the next time around or even all but prevent it from occurring again.
By learning from what happened and how to prevent it in the future, you and emergencies may not meet again for a very long time.
