Is photography worth pursuing?
Photography is a casual hobby for many, until this no longer satisfies their need to snap photos whenever possible. Photography is such a competitive market to work within, is it really worth all the hassle in the end?
The answer is yes for one reason; nothing worth having ever came easy. The saying is so true. Photography attracts many people, so yes, you will have a lot of competition, but if you want it enough, you’ll get it. Just don’t expect it to be as easy as taking a snap or playing Partypoker. In actuality there is a skill to it.
If you want to pursue photography you need to do as much research as you can. Check out the career information before you begin to look at courses, because you’ll want an idea of the field you’d like to go into. For example, do you enjoy taking pictures of people? Then portraits would be the best option for you. How much money do you ultimately want to gain? Different kinds of photography have different revenue.
You need to work out if you are capable of pursuing this as a career. Obviously you enjoy catching people off guard, and finding the perfect angle, but do you really have the right eye for it? Test out your skills. A photographer needs to understand how to make the most of what is available to them, in order to create photographic artwork. Your eye is kind of like your ‘Spidey senses’ after all. Without them, you won’t know what to do.
Make sure that you have goals when you eventually enrol in that photography course, and a whole load of ambition, because it is these things that will carry you through the good and bad patches, when you finally start out as a paid photographer. Don’t be shy about your work, and put yourself out there.
