The Wizard of Oz is one of the most famous movies in Hollywood history. Frank L. Baum’s Land of Oz and its inhabitants not only spawned more than a dozen follow up novels and several movie reboots, it has also strongly influenced the culture. In the 1970s an amusement park, Land of OZ, opened in North Carolina that was based on lands like Emerald City and Munchkin Land.
The movie inspired a Broadway show called “The Wiz,” which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1975 and was staged live on NBC in 2015. Fans even discovered the movie syncs up with famous albums like Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon.” Although Land of Oz closed in 1980, becoming a footnote in the movie’s history, this summer you can follow the Yellow Brick Road once again.
