The company, Carbon 3D, manufactures the M1-3D printer. In addition to being faster, this printer is more versatile. Up until now, most 3D printers were used to create prototypes. This has been a great invention for entrepreneurs and inventors, who can now create new products and get them to market much faster since they do not need to invest money and time in having prototypes manufactured.
However, consumers have been hoping for a 3D printer that can also make production-quality photographs or pictures using a variety of materials. To understand how the M1 works, you have to know how traditional 3D printers create their products. 3D printers make objects by depositing layers on top of each other. The layers are usually made of a kind of plastic. The M1 changes the process so that the object is created from a pool of liquid resin.

M1 also developed seven new proprietary printing materials, mostly resin, which allow the printer to make consumer-quality goods. According to Carbon 3D, the things made by the M1 should be stronger than those manufactured by traditional 3D printers. The company says because the printer mixes different materials together right before the printing starts, they are stronger. After the UV light hits them, the materials bind together.
Carbon 3D is a Redwood, California company that came up with Continuous Liquid Interface Production Technology, known as CLIP. The CLIP technology is utilized in the M1 printer and has led to partnerships with Kodak, Johnson & Johnson, Ford Motor Company and others. DeSimone attracted attention by demonstrating his printer and CLIP technologies during a TED Talk. Audiences were so impressed by his presentation that the company quickly attracted funding. As of 2016, Carbon 3D has raised over $140 million in capital. One of the major investors is Google Ventures, which is pioneering innovative technology via its Alphabet division.
