Home decorations are becoming more and more creative as time passes. People no longer want the usual vases, paintings and traditional table clocks on their shelves. The bold, adventurous folk of today, want something new, something out of the ordinary. Luckily for them, designers never fail to rise to the challenge. Damjan Stanković is a digital and industrial product designer from Belgrade. In an attempt to revolutionize the design of a classic table clock, Damian came out with something extraordinary: Rhei, the clock with liquid display.
Rhei is a concept that has been long in the making. It is a prototype of an electro-mechanical clock that dazzles through its liquid display. According to the designer, Rhei’s primary function, that of telling the time, fades in the background. Instead, the table clock acts as an animated sculpture taking the form of a clock and as a dynamic installation that shows us that time literally flows.
“Never before has a liquid substance been unveiled in its pure, unrefined form and controlled in a manner which allows it to display tangible shapes. There is a middle ground between the analog and the digital sphere, where the rules of mechanics and the laws of nature come together in order to create a liquid illusion reminiscent of a contemporary, digital form,” wrote the designer on his website. “Time as a concept is highly subjective, but there are two things we can claim about it with certainty: time is unrelenting transience and continuous movement. It is precisely this endless rhythmic flow that Rhei captures, and just as every moment differs from the other, the movement of its digits is differently animated each time, never permitting it to exibit the same shape twice.”
The Rhei table clock was created by the designer in collaboration with Marko Pavlović and several other people. What do you think of this wonderful project?
