Inspired by the strong emotions that a simple hug induces, Hungarian born designer Gabriella Asztalos created a special piece of furniture that is able to evoke as well as encourage this beautiful human movement.
The Hug Chair is based on a uni-body circular structure that mimics the spiral which forms when two people are hugging. The structure connects two seats together with the specific purpose to allow two people to sit face-to-face and develop an immediate intimate interaction. The exceptional shape and the amazing acoustics of this chair makes it an ideal medium for those who desire space for a private moment even if the chair is positioned in large and crowded rooms or halls.
Hug Chair is available in two editions – The Classic and the Contemporary – specially designed to bring together different types of people. The Classic edition features an elegant Walnut Wood outer layer and the Contemporary is constructed using Fiberglass, available in black and white.
All editions are upholstered with top quality real leather and the colour of the leather can be chosen to be any shade the future owner wish. The chair stands on a stainless-steel base that can fully rotate.
Hug Chair is the winner of the Singapore International Furniture Design Award 2011 and the New York International Contemporary Furniture Design Competition 2011.
Gabriella Asztalos grew up and studied across Europe. Prior to her design studies, Gabriella was a professional classical ballet dancer. This experience helped her develop a special talent to visually express feelings, emotions and a state of mind through shapes, movements and materials.
