Swimming can be one of the most relaxing activities. Those who enjoy spending lazy days at the pool, cutting the waters or merely floating around, have long discovered the calming effects of swimming. However, architects in London are trying to take things one step further. Combining luxury with relaxation, they have decided to start a new project and create the Sky Pool. This pool is made entirely of glass and will hang 10 stories above the ground.
The Sky Pool is definitely meant for the more adventurous sort of people, especially those who are not afraid of heights. It will be 25 meters long and suspended between two apartment blocks. The pool will be built in the still developing area near the former Battersea power station. According to its developers, this transparent pool will be the first of its kind in the world. It will be made of 20 cm thick glass that will allow swimmers to gaze at the world 35 meters below them.
“My vision for the Sky Pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering,” explained Sean Mulryan, the CEO of Ballymore Group, the company that developed the pool. “I wanted to do something that had never been done before. The Sky Pool’s transparent structure is the result of significant advancements in technologies over the last decade. The experience of the pool will be truly unique; it will feel like floating through the air in central London.”
The pool will be developed as part of the Embassy Gardens development at Nine Elms. Throughout this project many homes are developed, most of them in luxury blocks. The apartments of the blocks that are used as hanging spots for the pool can reach prices of more than £602,000. The residents will be able to take advantage of the pool and relax on the decks that boast a spa, a summer bar and an orangery.
