Cases of adoption in the animal world are not frequent, but they are astonishing and impressive. We hear of cases that transcend race and gender, sometimes getting forged between a predator and its prey or between races that should be enemies. Recently there had been a case of a baby fox being adopted by a border collie. However, the following case is even more impressive. A baby cat on the brink of death was adopted by a husky and nurtured back to life.
Rosie the kitten was only three weeks old when she was rescued. On the brink of death, the baby cat almost did not make it past the night. Her new owner explained that despite the round the clock watch and the help she had been given, the baby cat had been fading fast. Nobody had expected her to survive.
“She almost did not make it through the first night,” wrote her owner on Instagram, “even with round the clock care. She was lethargic and limp. So we decided to go out on a limb and let her cuddle extensively with Lilo. By some miracle, she started suckling on Lilo and Lilo went full ‘mom mode.’”
Since then the owner explained Rosie had been doing much better. She had started growing and her eyes had opened. Although Lilo never had puppies of her own and would never have them, she adopted Rosie as he own baby. Now, the baby cat has just turned three and a half months. She is doing amazingly in her family. Sometimes she even goes on walks with her mother.
Although adoptions and surogacy in the animal world had been known to happen, this is a bond that cannot be pushed. “Huskies are notorious for their intense prey drive!! So please please don’t run out and get a kitten (or a husky) expecting them to be best friends,” advised Rosie’s owner.
