Moving to another apartment can be cumbersome, especially if it comes completely unfurnished. Time must be spent going to stores, looking at furniture and finally deciding on something that would fit both the budget and the interior design. Above all, students have a hard time furnishing their rooms caught as they are with classes and having a small budget at their disposal. The Room in a box was created to help all those who wish to furnish their rooms quickly.
The Room in a box was designed entirely out of cardboard. It is a project developed by Toronto-based cardboard design firm Our Paper Life. The company declared that the materials they used are incredibly resistant and that they have been using the Room in a box for the past three years. To make sure water spills are not a problem, the furniture was treated with a water-resistant coating.
The invention also helps protect the environment. As opposed to other types of furniture, the Room in a box is 75 percent recycled and 100 percent recyclable. It can be carried with ease, disassembled fast and reassembled just as quickly. The idea came to the team during their university years when they were struggling to furnish their rooms. The Room in a box has been described as the “complete solution to furnishing student housing.” Each kit can be used to make a a chair, a desk, a wastepaper bin, a bed base and a dresser.
“The Bed was the tricky part,” explaied Geoff Christou, the CEO of the company. “At first I wondered if it could even be done, but after a lot of testing, we ended up using the storage units with simple connector pieces. It makes for a durable bed frame and allows for extra storage space under the bed.”
