The first person who mentioned this fearsome basilisk was Pliny the Elder, the first century Roman writer, in his well-known “Natural History.” This book included entries on fantastical creatures and exotic races of deformed men. The writer described the famous basilisk as a snake-like animal, with markings on its head that look like a crown. Later, during the Middle Ages, the basilisk has been modified into a fiendish serpent with the wings of a dragon and the head of a rooster. The legend claims that the basilisk features a deadly bite and venomous breath. However, the story also said that the basilisk could kill a man just by looking at him.

Yes, the famous Kraken. As we know, the maritime lore is filled with spooky stories of scaly-skinned fish men and sea serpents. However, the most famous mythical creature of all time is the Kraken. If we are looking back to its origins, the creature first entered popular folklore as a huge octopus spotted by fishermen of the coasts of Greenland and Norway. The legend says that the Kraken uses its numerous tentacles to ensnare ships and drag them into the water.

Roc is a very popular myth among merchants and travelers. This creature is known as being a giant bird of prey that is so strong that it could snatch an elephant from the ground. Researchers claim that the idea of a giant bird may be partially inspired by sightings of so-called “elephant birds.” This species of massive birds existed in Madagascar until the 17th century.
There are plenty of other mythical monsters and legends that seem to be very interesting. Have you ever heard stories about myth creatures?
