The Nalukataq Festival can be attended every year in June as a celebration at the end of the whale hunting season for the Inupiat Eskimos. This event is held in Barrow and is considered to be one of the biggest events in the community. During this festival, locals will eat several different dishes made from whale meat, they will tell stories, play music and enjoy many other interesting activities.

Humungus Fungus Fest is dedicated to a huge underground fungus. This interesting festival is home to a large range of events, from horseshoe tournaments to the famous pancake breakfast. At the end of the festival, there will be a fireworks display and a huge mushroom pizza cooking event. This large fungus is over 1,400 years old and is covering an area of approximately 36 acres and even if it isn’t visible from the ground level, it is certainly an impressive fungus.
