Pianos have always been among the most majestic musical instruments. In time many designers have tried to give them an unique touch, creating glass pianos, transparent pianos or simply some with dazzling shapes. Goldfinch Pianos and Based Upon, a London-based artist studio, have decided to try their hand at recreating the shape of this musical instrument. Their creation was Baby, a spectacular piano that is inspired by patterns in nature.
“The piano’s form is based on the repeating spiral patterns omnipresent throughout our universe. From star-studded galaxies to the florets in a sunflower, the fluid curves of the Baby Piano depict these mysterious patterns – so prevalent in nature. It’s called the Twist – a unique Based Upon sculpture – and the result of nine years of design evolution,” stated the artists of Based Upon.
The Goldfinch Baby piano has a tri-oval top that elevates giving the impression it twists away from the base and reveals in its wake a baby grand piano. The piano is made from exclusive metals that have been hand-finished and tactile resins in order to represent the earth and the outer space working as the artists’ inspiration.
“To date the Twist has appeared as a handful of luxury, limited edition tables and consoles and is now reimagined as an astonishing piano,” added the artist studio.
The wood used in the creation of this bespoke piano is high quality spruce harvested from the Valle de Fiemme in the north Italian Alps. The material is one often preferred by Goldfinch piano craftsmen. The Baby piano is entirely handcrafted. Even its 230 strings have been measured, calculated, manufactured and fitted by human hands.
As a bespoke masterpiece, this handcrafted piano was sure to come with a hefty price tag. Indeed, the Goldfinch Baby piano has been evaluated at £475,000 ($708,500). Do you know other out of the ordinary musical instruments?
