Robots have always been able to spark the imagination of millions. Be it in movies or novels, their fame has never faded. Only this year alone brings with itself several movies and books where robots are the main stars. However, that is not all. Interior design also benefits from a futuristic approach and the Melchior clock, from MB&F and L’Epée 1839 fits perfectly in the fold.
MB&F celebrates its first decade in 2015. As such, they decided to celebrate by launching a variety of Anniversary Pieces throughout the year, under the theme: “A creative adult is a child who survived”. The first such piece is Melchior, created in collaboration with L’Epée 1839. Although it looks like something born out of our childhood fantasies, Melchior is in fact a 480-component mechanical table clock.
At a first glance, the robot looks like the perfect partner to thwart the evil plans of a diabolical mastermind. It has a brass and steel armor and a rocket launcher in one hand, making it perfect for any Sci-Fi story. However, at a more careful gaze, one is able to see the clock’s hours, minutes and seconds. What’s more the rocket launcher doubles as winding key. The clock comes in two color schemes, Light and Dark.
“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, man’s best friend was his robot…As a 10-year-old fan of Star Wars, I knew Luke Skywalker could never have prevailed had it not been for droids like R2-D2 – a loyal, resourceful and brave robot who was always saving his friends. As an only child, I imagined having my own robot companion…Melchior makes that childhood fantasy a reality.” said Maximilian Büsser.
As it can only be expected, this clock will be a limited edition that will come out in only 99 pieces. Its price tag will be an impressive $36000. How well do you think Melchior depicts the robots of our childhood dreams?
