Above the little town of Sasbachwalden, right at the foot of Mount Hornisgrinde, Germany, the ancient farm of the family Wild tempts wine and nature lovers with one-of-a-kind accommodation unit: the Black Forrest Wine Barrel Hotel.
The hotel’s rooms are actually 8000 liter former wine barrels placed at locations near the farmhouse, all with breathtaking panoramic views over the Rhine valley to the Vosges Mountains of France. But don’t imagine that the enterprising family relied only on the beautiful landscape to attract guests. Every giant barrel have been restored and converted into lovingly decorated and comfortable sleeping, living and sanitary quarters.
The sleeping barrels have been equipped with a double bed, but they can be separated into two singles upon request. Each of these cozy rooms are accompanied by a small rocky garden, flowers, a bench, and a living or a bathroom barrel.
No matter it’s summer or winter, guests will enjoy a basic comfort permanently. The room barrels are heated for chilly nights, while on warmer summer months there is a cooling air flow provided by the glass view windows and doors opening to the mountain slope breezes.
Hidden among the vines, there are eight such giant wine barrels pairs that can only be reached on foot.
