The EnChroma Cx Glasses are a new invention from EnChroma that aim to help color blind people perceive the world more accurately. They do so by amplifying the color signals sent to the brain. The glasses provide a high color contrast, creating an image where red, blue and green stand out and are perceived in a correct way by the wearer. The techonology used for the EnChroma glasses is called Digital Color Boost.
The technology received its name due to the precise filtering of the color spectrum. On their website, the company explained how this technology works: “Digital Color Boost™ works using a series of precise “cutouts” along the spectrum of light. By removing the wavelengths of light between the primary colors, Digital Color Boost™ amplifies the color signal sent to the brain. Standard sunglasses darken the view to cut glare, but also reduce color definition. EnChroma lenses provide protection without compromise.” To do so they use 100 layers of dielectric material that scans the light as it is coming through.
“EnChroma’s Digital Color Boost™ sets a new standard for what is possible in eyewear. This technology is astronomical—literally. The same machines for making optical parts in satellites and lasers also make EnChroma’s lenses with Digital Color Boost™,” added the company.
The glasses are sturdier than normal ones, making them safer to use during sports or other demanding activities. Models for both adults and children are already available. Moreover, EnChroma also launched a line for colorblind athletes that will, at the very least, help them distinguish between different team jerseys. Moreover, these glasses can also be produced to prescription specs if the owner has more than one eye condition he or she has to deal with.
What do you think of the EnChroma glasses? Are they useful for people suffering from colorblindness?
