Car problems can be tricky to diagnose. Sometimes we do not even know they are there and we keep driving until our car crashes down. Other times something minor turns into a bigger problem over time and we have to pay more to repair the car. A new invention called Connection Key from the Mechanic Advisor comes to diagnose car problems and offers directions towards a good repair shop, if necessary.
In order to work, the Connection Key must be plugged into the car’s OBD-II port. This port has been standard in gasoline cars since 1996. From there, the device is able to read the diagnosis codes generated by the car. However, the gadget aims to do more than simply diagnose; its task is to translate the diagnosis codes into plain English and help everyone understand the inner workings of the vehicle. In this way, drivers can plan the maintenance of their cars more easily.
The company described their device on their website stating: “Our easy-to-use app connects to your car’s computer and provides you with a real-time diagnostic report of your car’s health. With it, you’ll know about critical and non-critical issues as they happen. We provide you with all of the important information related to the problem, as well as the ability to get immediate assistance from a professional mechanic.”
The device, paired with the app, sends relevant alerts to the user’s smartphone. It can also be used to set up maintenance schedules for routine actions such as oil changes or brake inspections. If the health of the car deteriorates and the user needs help, the app taps into its database of 500,000 automotive professionals to find the closest, suitable one.
Mechanic Advisor has already set up preorders for the Connection Key. It is priced at $44.95 (plus $5 shipping) and will come with accompanying Android and iOS apps. What do you think about this new gadget?
