This city is considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on the globe. The name Byblos comes from Greek, which means “papyrus”, due to its important papyrus trade. Nowadays, Byblos is a prosperous city with glass-fronted office buildings and streets filled with people. But, nearby this modern part of the town, there are the extensive excavations, which turn Byblos into one of the most important archaeological sites in the area.
