This impressive building was constructed over a period of ten years, between 1884 and 1894. Its architecture is of a Renaissance building, 137m long and 97m wide. The Reichstag was funded with wartime reparation money from France, after Prussia’s defeat in front of this country in 1871. ‘Dem Deutchsen Volke’, meaning the German People, is the famous inscription that was added later, by Emperor Wilhelm II in 1916.

This purpose of this building was to serve as a summer residence for Sophie Charlotte, wife of Frederick III, the Elector of Brandenburg.
