A flat tire is the last thing you need while you are out cycling, be it on the streets, or in nature. In order to solve this problem and improve traction on bumpy, muddy trails, Schwalbe announced back in February that they were working on a dual-chamber bike tire system. Since then, the system has been improved and now they are ready to present Procore to the world.
The new Procore dual-chamber mountain bike tire system was unveiled at Interbike 2014. The system allows cyclists to add a high-pressure inner tube inside their already existing tubeless tire. This new tube, that does not take up the entire space inside, is called the inner chamber of the tire. The outer chamber is, of course, the remaining space. The inner tube can be inflated up to 87 psi (6 bar), which is enough pressure to keep the tire seated in a secure way on the rim. As a result, the outer chamber can be kept at a low pressure, thus providing more traction on mountain biking trails.
An additional advantage of the Procore dual-chamber system is that in case of a flat tire, the additional air in the tube is enough to help you get home without problems. Still, flats in the outer chamber should not be too common. The Procore kit includes sealant that can be used to plug smaller punctures.
The Procore dual-chamber mountain bike tire system should be out on the market starting with next year. It will come in all three mountain bike wheel sizes. A kit will contain two tubes, the sealant, and all the necessary mounting accessories. Its price will be €179 (about US$230). Procore adds 200 grams to each wheel and can be used with all tubeless-compatible rims.
What do you think of the Procore system? Would it be useful for your bike?
