Wall clocks come in all sorts of shapes and designs. Some are sober, in grey tones, made for conservative people. Others are bright and cheerful, with psychedelic designs, meant for those who are young and creative. Almost for each person and personality there is a type of wall clock. The ClockOne comes on this market aiming to be unique thanks to its E-Ink display.
ClockOne is, at the moment, the only clock in the world with an E-Ink display. We normally encounter E-Ink in eReaders such as Kindle. However, Twelve24, the company who created the wall clock, decided to use it because of its many advantages. ClockOne has a simple and elegant design, almost minimalist. It resembles old digital wristwatches due to its four large digits that flash when the time changes. It is one meter wide (39 inches) and 35 cm tall (14 inches). However, it is on the thin side, at only 4 mm.
The wall clock comes with a magnetic system to mount it on the wall. In this way, it is easy to fit and adjust. Those who want to be on the brave side can even dare put it on top of a bookcase. Its E-Ink display can be fitted to show either 12 or 24 hour clocks. It uses very little power and according to the company can run with only a single CR2450 button battery for an entire year. It is made of milled aluminum with beveled edges.
ClockOne is due to go on sale in September. It has a recommended retail price of US$499. Those interested can sign up to be notified when presales start and receive a discount as well.
This new invention certainly had a steep price tag. However it is unique, runs on very little power and has a wide viewing angle. Would you buy the ClockOne?
