Regardless of where we work, most of the time we sit at a desk. We either use a computer, write things down or make phone calls, but no matter what we do we have a desk and a chair. But, how would things turn out for our health if said desk would actually be a stationary bike? And what happens when we also throw the idea of charging gadgets in the mix? We get an innovative product called WeBikes.
This new invention was designed by WeWATT, a Belgian company whose interest lies in pedal-powered furniture solutions. WeBikes are stationary bikes that also double as desks. Moreover, the pedaling generates energy that can be used to power up gadgets. A smartphone will be fully charged with just half an hour of pedaling. It is about the same time it would take to charge it from a wall socket, but with the added benefit of keeping in shape and exercising.
The concept was first invented by Flemish government minister Patricia Ceysens. She created a cycling desk for herself as a way to add exercising to her very busy schedule. Afterwards, she realized her invention could be developed to generate energy. She started the company WeWATT in order to be able to produce the WeBikes.
WeBikes is made of a circular desk with three seats arranged around it. Each seat has its own set of pedals. People can power their gadgets away by pedaling. Moreover, they exchange a sedentary life for a more active one by squeezing some exercise hours in their program. Already, the WeBikes have been added to airports, malls and railway stations. They have also been presented in universities, libraries, and hotels. Now, the company is seeking to add them to offices and lounges.
