A cat’s feeding patterns can tell quite a lot about its health. It is a known fact that many feline illnesses have a lack of appetite among the symptoms. As a result, tracking these patters, we could find out if there is something wrong with our cat. However, if we are at work or have several cats in one household, this can be a difficult thing to do. The Bistro Cat Feeder comes to aid owners.
Bistro is a smart feeder that uses facial recognition to monitor each cat and tracks its feeding patters. It also comes with a scale that will monitor the pet while it is feeding. The system then tracks the cat’s weigh, alongside the food and water intake. It later sends all this data to a smartphone. There owners can access it with ease. The camera of the Bistro cat feeder can even be used to watch the cat as it feeds. At nighttime, a LED will gently illuminate the surrounding area around the feeder.
What’s more, this feeder comes with an interesting option for owners whose cats get fed outside and who would not want to see their food stolen by other cats. Each household cat has a profile created especially for it. When a cat comes to feed, the facial recognition system is triggered. If the cat is recognized, then food is dispersed by the feeder. If not, food is withheld and the images are sent to the owner. The same feature is used to monitor each cat in the eventuality that a household hosts more than one feline.
Wet food cannot be used with the Bistro cat feeder. However, the device is able to hold 15 cups of dry food. The water container holds 38 oz (1.1 L). If either of these run low, the owner is notified via the Bistro app. Said app is being developed for iOS and Android devices. The feeder is set to be released in February 2014 and is priced at US$249. Would you buy it?
