I’m sure that you all know who George R.R. Martin is, am I right? His books took our world by storm and the TV show created based on said books has captivated us from its first second on air. George R.R. Martin is the wordsmith behind our beloved Game of Thrones– the mesmerizing TV show created by HBO based on Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, a book series of epic fantasy novels. Starting with the first book, A Game of Thrones and following with A Clash Of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons. The sixth book, titled The Winds of Winter is underway. The series ends with a seventh book known to be titled A Dream of Spring.
George R.R. Martin created a complex world with even more complex characters all fighting for one thing: The Iron Throne. The power struggle is fueled by plots and allegiances, spiced with deaths of some of our beloved characters ( and some of those we all hated- remember Joffrey?), with incest and treason, not to mention dragons and the Wall of ice guarded by the Night’s Watch. All seven kingdoms of Westeros strive to be the greatest.
Martin explores a subject as old as the world – the thirst of power and the things we do to get hold of it. The politics, the schemes, the blood spilled and the desire to sit on the Iron Throne fuel the world of Game of Thrones. The genealogy of the families in the books is ever so complex and each time a family is added Martin devises some sort of destiny for it. Each book starts with a presentation of the characters, tens of pages long. Some of the mentioned characters quickly fade away. Due to the fact that George R.R. Martin has been dubbed the master-murderer as he kills off many characters, we might think that he created so many people in order to have many people to kill off. All jokes aside, George R.R Martin is considered to be the American Tolkien and has created an intriguing world that we all enjoy to roam.
Have you read any of George R.R. Martin’s books or have you seen the show? What do you think of them?
