Creating folding bikes is all about making them occupy as little space as possible. The very shape which they form when they are folded must be versatile enough to be able to place them wherever we need to. Usually, these bikes have small wheels that decrease their speed and make them unsuitable for most types of roads. However, the Sada Bike aims to differ with its 26” wheels.
The Sada Bike aims to get rid of all inconveniences pertaining to portable bikes, while at the same time folding to the rough size of an umbrella. It was created by Italian designer Gianluca Sada who has been working on this project since 2008. The Sada Bike looks like any normal 26” bike at first glance. Its wheels are attached to the structure with an anchoring system. However, when one pushes on the saddle, the wheels detach and the frame folds upon itself.
“It uses a system anchoring the wheels using smaller wheels held by a small frame and a specific quick clamping device. They allow you to fold the bike quickly and easily, using its special package like a trendy backpack,” Sada explained.
The designer wished to create a special pack as well. The frame of the bike would be added in said pack, while the wheels would act as support. Because the wheels have no hubs or spokes there would be enough space in the pack to add the bike frame and other objects. Another alternative would be that the pack could be used as a wheeled suitcase.
At the moment the Sada bike is merely a prototype. Its creator is seeking funds in order to take the bike past this stage towards the production one. In time, this design could be seen on the streets. Would you buy a Sada bike?
